A Little Southern Hospitality From an Etsy Shop Owner, Anyone?

Meet Sara a true southern woman with a heart as big as Texas and creativity that shines true! We are proud to have a fellow Texan with us today! Now bless all your sweet hearts and enjoy - “Aunthentically You By Sara”.

Building Bridges: Tell us a little bit about you, your family, and what you like to do for fun!

Sara: My name is Sara (obviously lol), I am 30 single w/ no kids but I have 2 nieces and 2 nephews that I love like my own. They are an amazing bunch of kiddos and I am so proud to be called their Auntie! and yes they actually call me Auntie! never Aunt Sara or Auntie Sara, just Auntie. I live in Dallas and I am very proud to be from the Great State of Texas. There is no place like it and there is no place I would rather be. Being from Tx I am a true southern woman. I use phrases like "Lord have mercy!" and "bless your heart" almost every day and no person will ever leave my house hungry!

Building Bridges:  Why did you choose the name of your business? Is there a special meaning behind it?

Sara: The name of my business is Authentically You By Sara (or AYBS for short). My goal is to make bags, purses and accessories that fit the woman buying it perfectly! I want women to be able express their true personality with the bag they carry. I love, and actually prefer, to do custom orders. There is nothing I love more then to make a bag that someone designed for themselves.  I hope to one day have a successful website of my own but for now I am happy with Etsy.

I was inspired to start this business because like most ladies I am obsessed with purses and bags (tote bags in particular) but I was never able to find the exact bag I was looking for when I wanted it. I would get it in my mind that I would want a particular bag in a particular color but the right thing was hardly ever out there for me. I also know the value of being able to say that the bag I carry is one of a kind, that no one else has what I have!
Building Bridges: Why did you decide to open your shop and why sell on Etsy.com?

Sara: When I started making bags I knew that I needed a place to sell them and after doing some research I decided to start my business in Etsy. It is by far the best site I have found to sell my products. It allows me to reach a much wider audience then I could reach on my own. I have also found it to be a great resource for materials for my bags.

I have always wanted to own my own business but until now I had not found something that I was passionate about. I wanted to do something that I love and inspires me every day and I have found that in my bags. There is a saying that if you love what you do you never work a day in your life and I feel that it is true so I refused to start a business that I was not 100% happy with and committed to.
Building Bridges: When did your shop officially open?

Sara: My Etsy shop officially opened on 5/18 and so far I have sold 1 bag. That may not seem too exciting to most folks but for me it was a celebration! Starting out I was so scared that no one would like or buy my bags but that one sale proved to me that I am on the right path. I am still working a full time so I make my bags at nights and on the weekends. It is a lot of work and there are many many more late nights to come but I know that as long as I stay true to my goals and trust my ideas one day I will be successful doing the thing I love the most!

Building Bridges: Thank you so much Sara for letting us be able to share a few moments out of your busy day and learn more about AYBYSARA! Have a blessed summer and happy sales to you!
