Re-becca Jewelry – Unique and Cute!

Meet Rebecca Grekin – owner of “Re-becca Jewelry” on Etsy! We think the world of entrepreneurship and this lady is doing one great job of getting a jump start on her artistic career!

Building Bridges Marketing: Tell us a little bit about you, your family, and what you like to do for fun!

Rebecca Grekin: I am Brazilian and currently a Junior at Memorial High School and I absolutely love creating and designing my own jewelry and accessories. I am a total SuperWhoLock (I love watching Supernatural, Doctor Who, and Sherlock) and love listening to music and talking to my friends. I have a sister who is in 6th Grade. My mom is Brazilian and my dad is Chilean.
Building Bridges Marketing: Why did you decide to open your business?

Rebecca Grekin: It all started in 7th grade with a Christmas present my mom gave me, a bead bracelet loom. I started making some for myself, and then I found out I really enjoyed creating them, so much so I ended up with a huge pile of them. While trying to decide what to do with all the bracelets, I had the genius idea to start selling them to my friends and my business has only grown from there! Soon after, I began incorporating my love of nature and the environment into my pieces and now most of my items are either recycled, recyclable, or biodegradable.

Building Bridges Marketing: When did your business officially open?

Rebecca Grekin: I do not have a physical location, but my online store opened up August 2012. I started selling my items at my school in 2009. I've been going to fairs and bazaars now since 2012 as well.
Building Bridges Marketing: Any current shop promo discounts, if so when do they end?

Rebecca Grekin: Just for your readers I am running a coupon code: BuildingBridges. The coupon gives 15% off any purchase above $5 and it is valid until July 31st!
Building Bridges Marketing: What is your favorite part about owning your own business?

Rebecca Grekin: I love the independence it gives me. I can work when I want and wherever I like. It's been a lot of hard work, but it's completely worth it and I've loved every second of it!

Building Bridges Marketing: Do you have a product that you prefer to design/create over others?

Rebecca Grekin: I particularly like making scarves. For some reason the repetitive motion of either crocheting or knitting  has a calming effect on me. Plus I love learning new stitches and experimenting with new patters.

Building Bridges Marketing: Did you always see yourself becoming an entrepreneur?

Rebecca Grekin: Since I got started so early, it's really just become part of my life. Of course when I was smaller I imagined myself as a ballet dancer or a firefighter, but realistically, it's always been a part of me.

Building Bridges Marketing: Tell us anything extra you would like to be added to your feature.

Rebecca Grekin: I mostly work with recycled, biodegradable, upcycled, and eco-friendly materials. I like to make people think twice before throwing things away because they realize that even the simplest of objects can become things of beauty and so I particularly like working with common household items including button, safety pins, and soda can tabs.

Building Bridges Marketing: Thanks for the lovely interview Rebecca - we wish you much success! Readers you can follow Rebecca on all of her shop adventures on Facebook & Tumblr .
