The holidays are coming and that baking season is getting into full swing! With that in mind, what better item to review this week then a cutting board from one of our very own Etsy shop owners!
Emily is the owner of BungalowBoo! She has quite the knack for designing some of the most amazing cutting boards I have ever seen! I wish I could just make a wall filled with all the beautiful bamboo designs! Let's jump into this week's review!
THE REVIEW
Anywho - I got to chopping and I loved how the bamboo cutting board did not make that horrendous loud noise that my other chopping board makes...darn you glass board!
I was sure to read the directions (sweetly provided by Emily) before my first chop session! What makes Etsy Shop owners so amazing? It's their thoughtfulness! Emily is sure to send each buyer a sheet that lets everyone know how to properly care for their cutting board, teaches them more about her bamboo cutting boards, & thanks everyone for supporting her! You don't see that from any average type of store!
I also love how she explained the difference between plastic and bamboo cutting boards over time and how bamboo boards tend to hold less bacteria. Who knew??
Thank you so much Emily for sharing your beautiful art with us! You are incredibly talented and have been able to do so much with your shop, for only being open less than two years! We wish you all the best.

THE STORY
BungalowBoo was born in San Diego, California from a need not to fill the world with fashionable cutting boards but instead to pay for the impending grad school debts. But some of the best ideas often come from other intentions. In addition to a simple cutting board business I was an ICU registered nurse for 7 years. But like many others I grew tired of the corporate greed and the endless suffering that plagues our current healthcare system. So I decided to make a change. I am not a heartless corporation and I don't want to be. I am not a big company nor is that my goal. In fact, it is just me, in my one-car garage, with my two rescue dogs, Einstein and Edison. We like lasers, earth, people, food, cooking, and business (but not cooking earth people with lasers for food and business). It kinda all started there. That and a brilliant idea on a napkin.
I am an old fashioned gal who grew up watching Captain Planet and sold daisy seeds instead of lemonade. I believe in the power of bamboo; it has cohesive magic of being a renewable grass that is stronger than most woods and naturally anti-microbial. Not to mention being absolutely gorgeous. Bamboo is beauty and bronze. The ornaments I make are from wood that has fallen in the trails I run with my dogs. Instead of being fuel for the frequent wild fires California faces, it is instead rescued and turned into a beautiful keepsake that breathes life once again.
My boards are not bought from China. I hand select the bamboo plywood from two local hardware stores in Southern California. I hand cut the wood twice and sand it with two different grits. Some engraving designs are from other artists that deserve to be featured while some are created by me. I do all of my own engraving and then I personally wash and oil the boards by hand. Each board is inspected and then wrapped and tagged in twine. They aren't always perfect or the same size, but that is because it was made by a human not a machine. The unique imperfect bamboo makes it beautiful. This business has taught me more in one year than I have learned from two bachelors degrees. Now I can say that I love what I do and why I do it. I am so grateful for Etsy and so grateful for all my customers and all the kind words. It has given me the ability to do my part in protecting this great planet. As a great philosopher once said "The Power is Yours".
P.S. Readers - be sure to check out Emily's latest deal inside of her shop! Starting November 1st, Order 3 Boards and use coupon code "VINOVIXEN" to receive a free handmade cork reindeer ornament.
