Meet Maggi! She isn’t
really that mad…we swear!! Maybe a little busy, a little creative, but never
mad. But then again we must all be a little mad to be involved in the crafting
world right?? Today we are gathered here to learn her story and “ooh and aww”
over one of her (in our opinion) delightful jewelry pieces in our review below!
The Interview
Building Bridges:
Tell us a little bit about you, your family, and what you like to do for fun!
I am a mother of two
crazy awesome boys, one with an extra chromosome and one with a smart mouth. I
have been with my husband since we were teenagers. We spend most of our free
time exploring and seeing animals. Since I was 13 I have enjoyed sewing and
making new outfits. When I had my boys I stopped sewing and making items. When
they napped and I did not want to wake them that’s when I picked up sewing and
making pieces again. Soon after is when I started making items for others and
when I opened a shop on Etsy. I still enjoy making items, sewing is always my
favorite, hiking, gardening with my kids, and swimming.
Building Bridges: Why
did you choose the name of your business? Is there a special meaning behind it?
When I was pregnant with my second child I was extremely cranky
compared to my first. When I would walk into a room my sister and husband would
ask if it was mad Maggi or nice Maggi coming into the room. When I decided to
open up a shop I asked them for help with a name and both said I should name it
Mad Maggi’s. And that is how it became named Mad Maggi’s Creations.
Building Bridges: Why did you decide to open your shop and
why sell on Etsy.com?
My sister mentioned Etsy and I looked into and I opened
shop there. So far it has been helpful to build my shops name and let people
see what I offer.
I opened up shop on
April 1, 2012 and made my own website just this last year.
The first item that
was sold was a Bright Yellow Sunflower Headband.

Building Bridges: Do you have any shop promo discounts, if so when do they end?
I try to keep my
price reasonable enough throughout the year. I do offer gift with purchases over
a twenty dollar amount and for returning shoppers.
Building Bridges: Do you take custom orders?
I started taking
custom orders a year ago and kept it going. Custom orders are always fun to
make and keep me on my toes.
Building Bridges: Why make handmade products?
I started making
handmade items because it was hard to find any items that I liked or it was
extremely out of my price range. My boys like to “hide” or pull on my necklaces
when they were babies which was no fun and buying again and again became not an
option. That was another reason I started making pieces.
Building Bridges: What do you love or hate about selling?
I do enjoy meeting
new people, making new items and making custom item. The only downfall would be
when my oldest gets sick due to some medical issues and I fall behind in
orders. Other than that so far I do not have any complaint.
Building Bridges: What is your favorite part about owning
your own business?
The upside of owning
my own shop is that I get to be with my kids when they are not in school. Also a
plus is I get to have random hours that work with my busy family schedule.

Building Bridges: Do you have a product that you prefer to design/create over others?
I enjoy making
sweater guards and hair bows the most. Painting certain items is also exciting
for me.
Building Bridges: Do
you have any advice for other crafters who would like to start selling their
creations?
As long as you are
passionate about what you are making go for it. People will see that passion
and will love it just as much as you do.  Make sure to that you have time and patience.
Always have extras of certain things, so you do not run out of pieces.
Sometimes it will get overwhelming, that is when you need to relax and take
your time to ensure everything comes out perfect.
Building Bridges: We love to attend craft and vendor
markets - do you?
I do love going out
to events/ art shows. Living in California there is always one going on. For
the most part they are kid friendly and we go as often as possible. When I join
a show it is nice when my kids can come and see me. Even the adult art shows
are a blast.
Building Bridges: Did you always see yourself becoming an
entrepreneur?
No, when I was little
I wanted to be a Lawyer. Once I learned to sew and started making my own
clothes. That quickly changed. From then on I would make things or pieces for
family members and friends. Now with the internet I make pieces to sell for
anyone interested in them.

Building Bridges: What is your most popular product on the
market right now?
At the moment I have
bone hair clips that seem to be leaving my work space regularly. Things always
change as more items I make. This is always fun for me to see my creations find
new owners and the new styles they wear them in.
Building Bridges:
What is the favorite item you make and why
My favorite pieces
are these shape earrings that have Beetlejuice and Lydia in them and a
Frankenstein ring I make.
Building Bridges: Do
you have any giveaways running right now?
The Review
jewelry” from crafters all over the world.
Maggi is amazing at
making unique jewelry. She was gracious enough to send me one of her dazzling
Harley Quinn rings (as seen in the photos).
WHY WE LOVE THIS:
2)
The glass
cabochon (18x35 mm) is so smooth and nice and adds a lovely touch of class!
3)
It’s
classy steampunk with the silver ring base – what can be better than that!?
4)
Zero flaws.
There is not one bad thing we can say about this ring, the image is crystal
clear, the base is extraordinary and the glass brings it to perfection!
Maggi resides in
