Amy's Not Dead Yet - cards & art for the geeky fan in your life

The detail alone makes this card a win. But what really put it over the top for us were the blasts of bright colors and heavy weight of the card stock (no one wants a thin card that will fall over!). Not only was Amy so incredibly sweet to send us this card for review, she also sent a Doctor Who bookmark (which has been put to great use, we assure you!) and a few of her artwork extras. California definitely does not feel that far away from Texas when we stop to think just how fast our card arrived in the mail. You can be sure to receive your order promptly and timely from Amy! We just can’t decide… will be really nice and give it away or keep  it for ourselves to admire on rainy days. Hehe

We not only had the awesome pleasure of reviewing a few of Amy’s products, but also were able to have an online chat with her. See our interview below:

Building Bridges: Why did you choose the name of your business? Is there a special meaning behind it?

Amy Crook: My business is actually named after a Monty Python bit from the Holy Grail. "I'm not dead yet! I'm feeling better!" I first used the name for my graphic design work, and then eventually grew my Etsy shop and fine art site around that theme, so I'm amysnotdeadyet at Etsy, and Antemortem Arts for fine art.

Building Bridges: What are a few of your best selling products and what other items do you sell?

Amy Crook: My biggest seller is greeting cards, most of which are geeky or fannish in some way -- I draw comics of Sherlock, Doctor Who, Cthulhu, and of course squid, and then print them onto cards, or sell the multi-panel ones as prints. I also have bookmarks, gift tags, and three different coloring books, plus a few original paintings that fit the theme of the shop.

Building Bridges: When did your shop officially open?

Amy Crook: I opened my Etsy shop way back in 2009, but I didn't start putting much energy into it before 2011, and it's really started to grow as a result of that nurturing. I chose Etsy because they had a good mix of people who supported artists and crafters, and other fans who love the same geeky things I do. They're a great place for new people to find me!

Building Bridges: Do you have any advice for other crafters who would like to start selling their creations?

Amy Crook: I think my first and best advice to other aspiring entrepreneurs is that it always takes longer than you think -- you can't compare your insides to someone else's outsides, you have no idea how long they've been doing their thing, or how much or little they make doing it. Don't get discouraged if things don't pick up right away, it takes time to figure it all out.
